The ability to negotiate strongly, with a defined strategy and to clearly communicate a desired, achievable outcome from any negotiations, is a skill that is part learnt by experience and part natural ability. The outcome of important and sometimes critical negotiations should not be left to chance, or allow the process to be taken lightly.
It has been said that all of life is a negotiation, from the time we get up in the morning, until the time we go to bed and that everyone is a negotiator. That may well be true, however if an outcome is to be truly negotiated, as opposed to demanded or simply left to chance, then a level of skill and experience is essential.
I have long been an advocate of an individual not negotiating an outcome or deal that they are directly involved in and affected by.
Unfortunately there are many who believe that we are all negotiators and "why would I want someone else to undertake that roll for me". More particularly "why would I pay someone to do that". The truth is that most people become 'emotionally' involved in the negotiation process and outcome, although they would not normally see or acknowledge that fact. The expenditure of a fee to obtain the best and possibly desired result, may well be the one investment that is worthy of the cost.
To put an adversarial intermediary 3rd party between yourself and the "other side" is a very powerful and astute move to make in any negotiation. Your opponent can not see or read your actions, hear your voice, or attempt to intimidate you if you are not standing in front of them or communicating with them. These are all actions that have no effect, when using a professional negotiator who has no emotional attachment to the outcome of the negotiations. Decisions can be made in a controlled environment with the luxury of being able to consider and test theories before putting them up for negotiation.
While my career has been within the commercial real estate market and my negotiating skill and experience based around that industry, the knowledge gained from undertaking many hundreds of substantial negotiations, has provided me with the tools and understanding of what is required to successfully negotiate any matter.
Negotiating is an activity that I engage in with enthusiasm and enjoy as much now, as I did when I first started in commercial real estate. I have learnt many technics over the years and more importantly, many traps that are to be avoided.
I would feel confident in my ability to represent you, as your advocate, in any negotiation situation.
